AVALON
ARTS & CRAFTS STUDIO
After retiring from
a career in art ther-
apy and teaching I
decided to dedi-
cate my free time
to full time painting
and drawing. This
is not an end of
my life transition, this is a beauti-
ful beginning.

Exploring the relationship be-
tween the forces of nature and
nature itself is interesting to me as
a visual artist. It is very complex.
To capture the moment when
storm clouds gather in the sky and
the wind starts whirling up the
branches in the trees and creating
waves in a field of golden wheat,
somehow creates a feeling of ex-
citement, but also trepidation.
I like to paint landscapes because
I seek order in a complicated
world. By capturing the forces of
nature through intense colour and
powerful lines gives me a sense of
control over my environment and
hence a feeling of inner strength.
In contrast to stormy weather, I
enjoy mirroring the reflections of
pine trees in rivers or the undulat-
ing rhythm and the angelic
transparency in a blossoming or-
chid. Exploring the inner cave of
of the self as well as the historic
cave paintings of long ago gives
me a sense of wonder, calm and
hope for humanity and our envi-
ronment. If this feeling is reflected
in the spectator, then I know the
work is successful.
